Kiln Formed Glass
Artist Bonnie House enjoys exploring how luminosity and translucence of
glass interact with color. Working with sheet, powders and particles of
glass, she had brought her painting skills to this exciting medium. Her
one of a kind glass paintings, plates, and panels will change depending
upon their placement and lighting conditions, giving them a life of
their own.

The plates and panels are made from sheets of colored glass that are
cut and pieced, then fired to fuse the pieces together. A separate
firing will allow the fused piece to take the shape of a mold. Each
firing takes a full day due to the annealing time and slow cooling
required.

The glass paintings are four layers thick, and made with glass powders.
Each painting is fired multiple times in order to build up intensity and
value of the color. The piece is cold worked after the final firing to
allow the viewer to see the depth of the painting.
Bonnie’s work is carried by The Cambridge Artists Cooperative, The
Worcester Center For Crafts, Noa Gallery, and the Petersham Craft
Center.
