A short distance north from the town common, Don Eaton produces some of the
finest Nantucket Lightship baskets made today. A skilled professional
photographer, Don practices his craft in a large post and beam barn and studio
behind his turn-of-the-century gambrel home on Sunset Lane.
These simple and elegant baskets are deceptively rugged because Don uses only the finest oak and cherry to construct his baskets. Don's baskets range from tea-cup-sized baskets for pin cushions to large 23-inch ovals. Don's baskets are appointed with cherry and oak handles as appropriate.
Don Eaton's Nantucket baskets are sold in fine galleries on Cape Cod and the Islands, and from his studio here in Petersham. They can be seen at The Edgartown Scrimshaw Gallery, 43 Main Street, in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, at the Tatlock Gallery, 36 North Water Street in New Bedford, as well as at The Spectrum of American Crafts in Hyannis and Brewster.
Nantucket Lightship Baskets made today by Don Eaton are of heirloom quality and are in private collections around the world.
